He's Here!

Creighton Tood Seghers arrived 4:20 am Tuesday, October 28
He weighed 7 lbs 6 oz and was 19.25 inches long
Dave and Alli are head over heels in love!
Around 10:00 pm Monday evening, labor began. Not sure of when to go to the hospital, I woke Dave up a few times but kept deciding to just wait a little longer to make sure this was really "it" before we went to the hospital. Finally, when my water broke at 2am, we went to the hospital. When we arrived at 2:30 am I was dilated 4 cm. They took my blood to measure the clotting times to see if it was safe for me to get the epidural. While laboring and still waiting for drugs, about 45 minutes later I felt this sudden urge to push so I had Dave quickly get a nurse. Yikes! I was a full 10 cm and ready to go! But my doctor wasn't there yet, my lab work wasn't back yet, and I had not yet received the epidural. My doctor got there just in time and a safe, exciting, natural delivery we had! Dave was a fabulous coach and supporter and made it all bearable!

okay, its starting to sink in -- for dave, he's excited to be a dad! for alli, she can't believe she just delivered without any drugs!

The Great Pumpkin!

I turned 38 weeks on Friday, October 24th. Bean is still "cooking". I truly thought I wouldn't make it this far. And since I'm in the safety zone and no longer on bed rest, I decided to go to a Halloween party Saturday night. So I rested up all day Friday to have enough energy for the big fun. No one loves a costume party more than Dave, so I knew this would just make his day for me to agree to go to the party.
Here are our costumes...I won 1st place in the costume contest. Or I suppose I should say my belly won 1st place! Guess Baby Bean was a pumpkin seed for Halloween this year! Ha!

Yes, that's right. I cut a hole in a shirt so my belly could stick out through it. Then I painted my belly orange like a pumpkin. Dave did the eyes, nose and mouth -- he did an excellent job! Lots of people were confused if it was really my belly or if it was a plastic shell! This is the only time in my life I will ever expose a part of my body that is abnormally huge and awkward!

We should have started this blog long ago so we could chronicle the entire story. So we'll play catch up on of some of the highlights as we build up to the big day of "Bean's" arrival!
On Feburary 24th, a Sunday morning, as I was preparing to leave the house for a work seminar, I took a pregnancy test that showed positive! Dave and I were both so excited, but feeling uncertain and cautious at the same time, just given our history with news like this. But after two doctors visits to confirm the pregnancy and that the "levels" were appropriate and rising, Dave and I allowed ourselves to celebrate the joy of our great news. We slowly spread the word to family and friends and then felt much more confident when I turned 14 weeks, which ironically was around Mothers Day! However, during a weekend trip to Las Vegas in April, when I was still only 11 weeks, I had strangers--casino dealers and players--asking me when my baby was due. So I guess we could say that thinking I could hide my secret was not an option as I evidently started showing quite early!
Anyway, skip a few months and right as I turned 31 weeks pregnant, I ended up in the hospital for pre-term labor. That was exciting and certainly a surprise, but after 5 days in the hospital I was sent home for bedrest. I had tons of visitors and helpers who made the bedrest experience much more bearable. Now we are at 37 weeks and SO ready for Bean to arrive! If he doesn't come on his own, we are scheduled to be induced on Wednesday, October 29th. We'll see what ends up happening!

I started out in the hospital doing okay and even enjoyed watching the Aggie game from my fancy bed (even though we lost!)

Later that evening, I wasn't doing so well from the contractions and the medications as you can clearly tell from this picture! I know we have a sick sense of humor for even posting this on our blog, but it cracks us both up so much just how pathetic I looked. I'm much better now!
